 My Priorities
Educational Enhancement Create an environment offering motivation, acceleration options and individualized learning that will help all children succeed, improve the graduation rate, reduce dropouts, and close the achievement gap.
Fiscal Accountability In the face of budget cuts ensure that the SCUSD’s fiscal management stays focused on educational opportunity and success for our students. Minimize the negative financial impact at the schools and ensure that financial constraints are not limited to staff reduction and elimination of vital programs.
School Safety Create, maintain and enhance the physical and emotional safety of all students and staff and the security of all facilities.
Effective Choice Options Ensure high quality, cost effective programs to offer options to students and keep them motivated. Evaluate under-utilized schools and establish other programs to create high-tech, high-wage career alternatives for both college and non-college bound students.
Staff Effectiveness Ensure highly effective instructional, administrative and support staff to facilitate student and school success at every site. Create a positive learning environment, in which every student will have highly qualified teachers and every school will have qualified and effective leadership.
Parent and Community Involvement Create and maintain active partnerships with parents and community groups to support student achievement, school initiatives and shared decision making. Ensure a positive learning environment in all schools by continuing to engage and involve parents and guardians. By keeping them knowledgeable of their child’s successes and struggles, they will be better able to reinforce their child’s efforts and celebrate their accomplishments www.vote4vicki.org FIVE REASONS TO VOTE FOR VICKI SIMPSON
• As a parent, Vicki knows that parental involvement is the key to a child’s academic success. The District needs to continue to work towards a collaborative effort between the schools and the families. This includes effective communication, access to the district’s leaders and an open door culture.
• As an educator, Vicki understands that not all students learn and succeed in the same manner. Schools need to provide alternative methods to accommodate the different learning styles of our children.
• As an active community member Vicki has, and will continue to, donate her time and energy to make sure our children have the best educational opportunities available.
• As an experienced business professional, Vicki understands the importance of responsible fiscal management while balancing the needs of the organization. Our schools need to ensure that all financial decisions stay focused on WHAT IS BEST FOR THE STUDENTS.
• As a neighbor, Vicki recognizes that all community members have a vested interest in the SCUSD school system. The School District needs to continue to maintain positive relationships with our community partners and businesses. A parent, not a politician! Sacramento City Unified School District, Area 3 Vote November 4 Dear neighbors,
I am proud to be a native Sacramentan and a 15 year resident of the La Riviera and Rosemont neighborhoods. I was educated in the public school system, beginning in this school district.
As a parent, I want my child to have the best education possible. I decided to run for the school board because I believe that the District is not meeting our children’s educational needs. The four-year high school dropout rate is over 25%, and only a third of those students who graduate meet the CSU and UC entrance requirements. The same old solutions are not working. New ideas are needed:
EXTENDED DAY KINDERGARTEN We can jump start our children’s education by providing the same amount of instruction time for kindergarten students as we do for first graders. More time will help to close the achievement gap for disadvantaged students and lead to higher test scores and fewer students being held back.
EXPANDED CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION How many dropouts believe that school is not relevant to their lives? The current system is focused on preparing a minority of students for college, but our community and economy rely on skilled workers in careers such as automotive repair, plumbing, electrical and other fields. Let’s prepare all of our children to be productive citizens of our great society!
We must manage our schools to benefit our children, not to line the pockets of well funded special interest groups. We must keep the focus on excellence in all of our schools. Please join me. David Chance for School Board, FPPC ID# 1309892 P.O. Box 276475, Sacramento, CA 95827

DONALD TERRY Educator/Foundation Coordinator I am honored to have already earned the endorsement of Senate Pro Tem Elect Darrell Steinberg, Assemblymember Dave Jones, Supervisor Roger Dickinson, Councilmembers Ray Tretheway, Rob Fong, Kevin McCarty and Ken Cooley and Sacramento County Board of Education Member Brian Cooley. Also, I earned the endorsement of the Sacramento City Teachers Association as well as SCUSD Board Members Rick Jennings, Ellyne Bell, Roy Grimes and SCUSD President Manny Hernandez. In addition business leaders such as Sotiris Kolokotronis, Johan Otto, John Lambeth, Pat Fong-Kushida and Azziza Goines are also supporting me. Professionally, I have been working to educate students and teachers about financial education for years. As a Community Development Officer for the Wells Fargo Foundation, I manage our financial education program for Northern California, a responsibility I take much pride in. I train teachers and facilitate classes for students on topics ranging from budgeting and balancing a checkbook, to understanding different loan programs while buying a home. It is important that we educate our students so when they enter college and the work force, they are prepared to make sound financial decisions. I am active in the local community. I serve as the Treasurer for the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters and am a member of the Advisory Committee for the Sacramento Language Academy a K-8 Spanish Immersion school. I am also a member of the Rosemont Community Association Board of Directors. Rosemont is a great place to live. With friendly neighbors and a close-knit community, I am certain this is where I want to raise my family. My background in education coupled with my active role in the community means that I can make my passion for improving our local schools a reality. I know quality schools ensure quality neighborhoods. When elected, rest assured that I will work hard to make our schools and community successful. With your support I look forward to victory in the November election and many years of service on the Sacramento City School Board.
