Acronyms or the Secret Code Educator's Use
 
In education, as in most specialized professions, educators use terms that may be unfamiliar to the general public. For example, most people associate the ABCs with the alphabet. But if an educator uses some of these terms, they may take on a whole new meaning. It’s not surprising that parents and others new to public schools often feel confused. This list of the more commonly used acronyms or abbreviations and their meanings has been developed to assist everyone in public schools communicate more effectively but often cause parents to feel that things are too complex.
It's a little like 'text messaging' which is the rage with our kids, it's not really a secret and you too can learn the code. Check out the list below for many of the common words and the acronyms. But if someone is speaking and you don't understand the acronym, raise your hand and ask.... that's the way we do it at school.
