Putting Children First

The Sacramento City Unified School District is committed to providing our community with excellent educational programs and services. This commitment can be seen in the many outstanding accomplishments by students, teachers, principals, staffs and students in the 2009-10 school year. Highlights of those successes are listed below.

Elementary Schools  

 

AM WINN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 

·         Implemented school wide English Language Arts intervention program leading to demonstrable gains with bottom quartile of students in reading comprehension, phonics and fluency.

·       Developed weekly program to compost school cafeteria leftovers in our school garden, eliminating waste and reducing our carbon footprint

·       Formed a partnership with the Sacramento Sirens (Women's IFL football team,) that resulted in players, coaches and the owner volunteering at our school to read to students on Read Across America Day and donating tickets and team paraphernalia to students and families.

 

ABRAHAM LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·      Held successful family events at least once per month.

·       Formed a partnership with Soil Born Farms that resulted in the students participating in outdoor education activities that promoted healthy eating habits and an increased awareness of how certain foods are grown.

·      Continued our Learning Lab program in which more than 200 students received intervention and enrichment based on their individual needs

 

 

 

BRET HARTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

 Formed a partnership with Reading Partners, which resulted in 49 community members (including Superintendent Jonathan Raymond) tutoring Bret Harte students in reading and literacy skills.

 

CAMELLIA BASIC SCHOOL

·       Nominated for the National Blue Ribbon School Award

·       Opened our Parent Center.

·       Worked with the neighborhood associations to plan for refurbishing and upgrading Camellia Park to include gardening area, refurbished tennis courts, tot lot, shade-structure, and mini-skateboard park.

 

CESAR CHAVEZ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Held first Math Night for Parents of the alternative program (English/Spanish).

·       Held parent Benchmark Nights (English Language Arts and Math).

·       Held annual book fair during parent teacher conferences

·       Implemented Board Math in all classrooms

·       Acquired document cameras and LCD projectors for all classrooms

·       Piloted Curriculum Associates benchmarks

 

CLAYTON B. WIRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Two C.B. Wire students place as finalists in the District Elementary Math Contest.

 

More than 40 C.B. Wire students participated in the elementary track competitions sponsored by Sacramento Running Association.

 

Partnered with Sacramento START to build a school garden..

 

C.P. HUNTINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Continued our partnership with Kingsley Art Club, which provides art instruction and field trips for our third, fourth and fifth grade students.

·       Celebrated the reclassification of nine English language learner students at our first annual Reclassification Ceremony

·       Continued the tradition of monthly Family Nights focusing on fun, family and academics.

 

 

 

DAVID LUBIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 

Double winner of Title 1 Academic Achievement Award and California Distinguished School (one of 79 double winners in the state this year.)

Almost 400 students (out of 535 students school-wide) attended the annual Principal's Ice Cream Sundae Party for mastering one certain grade-level skills.

At our annual STAR Awards Assembly, 178 students (grades 3-6) were awarded gold medals for scoring proficient and/or advanced on both the math and English Language Arts sections of the California Standards Test. That is 65 percent of the students in those grades who won a gold medal.

EARL WARREN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       2010 National Blue Ribbon Nominee, 1 of 35 schools nominated by State Superintendent Jack O’Connell for this prestigious award.

·       Winner of California Title I Academic Achievement Award  2010.

·       Ranked by the California Department of Education as a 10 out of 10 Similar Schools Rank, released May 2010.

·       Teacher John Castro named IMAX/News 10 "Teacher of the Year" as well as district "Teacher of the Year.”

·       Received $17,600 partnership grant from Fremont Presbyterian Church to provide Health, Music, and Enrichment Activities for the students of Earl Warren.

·       Sent Austin Lee and Eric Rong to district math contest. Eric Rong placed third.

·       Formally established Earl Warren's first PTA.

·       Performed approximately 150 home visits this year.

·       Student Equity Team Leaders created a video production showcasing student voices and opinion in regards to equity.

 

EDWARD KEMBLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·         Partnered with Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission to provide theater arts and dance in 12 culturally proficient model classrooms.

·         Provided Saturday School for second- and third-graders with more than 90 students enrolled.

·         Hosted a B.O.Y.S. and G.I.R.L.S. Conference to teach students about study skills, preparing for college and first impressions/manners.  A parent component included a keynote speaker to talk about setting goals for their children. 

 

ETHEL I. BAKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·         Awarded the Target Library Make-Over grant.  Library grand opening set for October 29, 2010.

·         Selected to have the Comcast Beautification Day April 24 to support a clean school environment.  Comcast donated a new AP system, basketball and soccer equipment.

·         Planned and supported our first community meeting to address school safety concerns in collaboration with CB Wire Elementary School.

·         Students surpassed the goal of one million reading minutes through the READ IT program.  Culminating celebration was shared by CSUS President Gonzalez, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Pruitt and Martha Rowland in a school wide assembly to hand out medals and trophies to our top readers.

·         Mayor Kevin Johnson addressed our promoting 6th grade students on Thursday, June 17 to encourage and support students to continue higher education.

 

ETHEL PHILLIPS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·         Increased API of 58 points from Spring 2008 to Spring 2009 CSt

·         K-3rd Early Exit Transitional Bilingual Program scored more than 80 percent proficient or advanced in Spanish and English state tests (CST and STS)

·         Participated in the Guinness World Record Jamba  Jump Day.

·         Awarded a School Improvement Grant as a QEIA school

 

FATHER KEITH B. KENNY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·         Selected as a pilot school for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts “Any Given Child” program.

·         Twenty-five of our students participated in the MESA Day competition at UC Davis and 10 students participated in the MESA Math Competition at California State University, Sacramento.

·         Students donated quarters and raised $275 for the American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

·         Thirty students received certificates and medals for participating in the 100 Black Men mentoring program.

·         Adopted by Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church.

·         Family Game Night, planned by Healthy Start and facilitated by Old Marshall Adult Education program, was a huge success.

FREEPORT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

 Collaborated with Sac State's CA Reading and Literature Project to provide ongoing professional development and support for all Freeport teachers in the RESULTS for English Learners program, which has contributed to a 21 percent gain in our English Learners' ELA scores. 

 

Established the Freeport PTA and increased family involvement by offering monthly family nights, several community-building events, and curriculum nights presented in English, Spanish, and Hmong.

 

Formed partnerships with Healthy Start and Cover the Kids in order to assist Freeport families in obtaining health insurance for their children. 

 

FRUIT RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Received School Improvement Grant Funding to start a 4:1 ratio summer tutorial program and updates to technology equipment.

 

 GOLDEN EMPIRE ELEMENTARY 

Nominated for the United States' "No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Award" for 2010.

Students and community contributed more than 2300 cans of food for the "Kids Can" Food Drive initiative.   

Partnered with California State University, Sacramento, in hosting 14 Korean teachers for one month, demonstrating effective teaching practices and US educational methodology. The Korean teachers, in exchange, provided cultural lessons and activities for the students and staff.   

Celebrated its STAR Awards by issuing more than 400 gold and silver awards for advanced and proficient students and 11 medals to students with a perfect 600 score. 


H.W. HARKNESS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Staff partnered with the Golf Course Terrace Estates Neighborhood Association to begin a Neighborhood Watch program in our community.

·       Partnered with the 100 Black Men of Sacramento to mentor and support a group of intermediate students on our campus.

·       Staff created and implemented a culturally responsive leveled library to support our approach to Balanced Literacy and Culturally Responsive Instruction.

 

HOLLYWOOD PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·      Continued our partnership with the Centennial Group, a group of nine volunteers who tutor our students once a week for 45 minutes, one on one.

·       Held a Multi-Cultural Festival - students learned and performed dances from Mexico, China, and Hawaii, along with the origin and history of each dance.

·       Participate in making Valentine Cards for a Senior Citizen Center.        

 

JAMES MARSHALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       James Marshall will be having its first ever summer reading program this summer. Four dates, four free books, four art projects during the summer months.

 

JOHN BIDWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Seven Bidwell sixth-grade students were accepted to Breakthrough Sacramento, a year-round, tuition-free college preparatory program taught on the Sacramento Country Day campus.

·       A newly formed parent group directed by Michele Hetland had a very successful year with a Book Fair, Ice Cream Social and field trip support.

·       The GATE clustering program expanded to include fourth grade with plans for future expansion in 2010-11 to include fifth and sixth grade.

 

JOHN CABRILLO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MESA winners in Math Competition

Held Volunteer Appreciation Tea to honor more than 40 parent volunteers.

 Two communities came together to create a new Caring School Community School.

Six classrooms participated in the Very Special Arts program.

Student writers' poetry was chosen for publication.

 

JOHN SLOAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Increased API 21 points, moving from 740-761; a 41-point gain over the last two years.

·       A six-week ELA/Math after school tutoring program, held in March and April, which was part of our CST push.

·       Held bi-weekly grade level meetings designed for teacher collaboration, review of student data and the monitoring of the effectiveness of instructional practices.

·       Reduced primary grade class size to 20:1 and intermediate grade class size to 25:1 through the use of QEIA funds.

 

JOHN STILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

Awarded one of the Golden Apple Awards from Nutrition Service Department for recognition of outstanding food service.

·       Established the first Student Council at John Still Elementary School to give students an active voice at the school.

·        Implemented the first Multicultural Day Faire that involved the community.

 

JOSEPH BONNHEIM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Provided opportunities for parent engagement through collaborative partnership with our school community to develop a fully-functioning P.T.A., English Learner Advisory Committee and School Site Council.

Cleaned and opened the library so that students could enjoy selecting materials for free reading and research purposes.

Met with teachers periodically throughout the school year to review student data, develop next steps for improving achievement and student success, and provide "just in time" professional development through the collaborative academic conferencing structure.

 

MAPLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Opened the first-ever Parent Room, in which parents met on a weekly basis.  Mega Skills classes provided to the parents and they attended California Bilingual Education Conference (CABE) to learn more about building parent participation at the school.

·       Partnership with the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission in which artist Andrew Patterson-Tutschka worked with several classes.  At the end of the program, Patterson completed a mural of the inside of the school and another mural depicting the front view of the school.

·       In conjunction with the Sacramento State Nursing Program, each child was fitted and given a new bicycle helmet.  Students were provided lessons on the importance of wearing protection in order to minimize any head injuries.

 

MARK HOPKINS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

Teachers and staff worked extra hours in our extended day program to give needed academic support and interventions for students, including primary language support in Spanish and Hmong

 

 Parents/guardians planned, staffed and opened the Parent Center to connect families with the school

 

Teachers and staff participated in the Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project.

 

The school held various Family Nights including Family Reading Night, Family Math/Science Night and two Multi-Cultural Festivals.

 

Families gave 5-10 hours of volunteer work each month and filled out monthly tally sheets documenting their hours of volunteer work throughout the year.

 

MARK TWAIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       The B.E.A.R. Club (Be Excited About Reading) Mark Twain’s motivational and supportive library/literacy program resulted in first through sixth grade students reading 13,673 library books and over 34,110,000 words this year.

·       The Parent Action Team enhanced the home-school connection by engaging families and staff in monthly events.   Topics ranged from interactive family literacy nights to highlighting the importance of family mealtime.

·       The Mentoring Program connected students and staff, which helped students be successful with their behavior and to make progress with their academic goals.

 

MATSUYAMA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·      Recognized as 2010 California Distinguished School

·      Increased student achievement by expanding student intervention to grades 2-6

·       Added 10 parent tutors to school-wide tutoring program

 

 

 

 

 

NICHOLAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Billy Thao received a check for placing second in the 6th grade MESA Pre Algebra Competition.

·       Daymond Kietsathit, Arliss Lam,  Maria Villalobos and Thuong Nguyen participated in the district's spelling and math competitions. 

 

 

 

 

 

O.W. ERLEWINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Started the Community Nursing Our Youth Program to teach fourth graders about nutrition, health, gardening and physical fitness. Program partners included a nutritionist, nurse, P.E. teacher, classroom teacher and students from George Washington Carver High School. 

·       Received two grants from the Healthy Eating Active Living and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to take part in many exciting science and health programs both on and off campus.

·       Increased the number of before and after school programs:  Band, Garden Club, two ECO Clubs, four Readers Clubs, four Math Clubs, 4 H, three Art Clubs, Chess Club, Technology Techies, and Learning with Games.

 

PARKWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Held a Literacy Day funded by a grant from Target.  Community members, parents, and Target employees spent the morning reading to Parkway students in grades K-6.

·       Hosted P a spelling bee. Students in grades 1-6 participated.

·       Open House features a family barbecue. More than 600 students and their families shared dinner with Parkway staff members.

 

PHOEBE HEARST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Fourth graders attended an overnight Living History experience at Sutter's Fort.

·       Fifth graders participated in Star Base science and aeronautics training.

·       More than 300 people attended the Earth Day Art Walk on April 17, showcasing student artwork and hands-on booths emphasizing environmental awareness.

·       First Kit Carson/Phoebe Hearst Talent Show held April 23 draws a full house!

 

PONY EXPRESS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Kaitlyn Kui, fourth grader, receives the California PTA Reflections STATE Award of Excellence for watercolor painting on the theme “Beauty is... “

·       Dad's Club formed resulting in a Parent Work Day with newly painted games on the blacktop, newly planted grass, cement poured and the school garden spruce-up.

·       Pony Express 150th Anniversary Celebration results in increased school-wide knowledge of our namesake.

 

 

 

SEQUOIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Collaborated with other Rosemont area schools and the Rosemont Community Association in two major neighborhood community engagement events; the first annual Rosemont High School Homecoming Parade and the Essence of Rosemont Community Party.

·       Started a chapter of National Elementary Honor Society, the first chapter recognized in the Sacramento City Unified School District.

·       Hosted its second annual Student Art Gallery, in conjunction with Open House, where every student display a work of art inspired by the professional development of artist Terry Joyce.

 

 

SUSAN B. ANTHONY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL


One of 22 finalist schools in the region named in the Governor's Challenge Competition, which promotes increased physical activity and better nutrition.

Organized first PTO, which held a successful community rummage sale. 
 
Offered monthly parent grade level workshops and/or family nights.

Formed partnership with Detroit Area Neighborhood Association.

Had an average of 95 students participate in an 8 week Saturday tutorial program.

Sixth grader, Angel Xiong placed third in the Elementary Math Contest.

Held celebration for more than 100 students that met their STAR goals.

 

SUTTERVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Three Sutterville students--Shaina Zuber, Cora Ledden, and Natalie Stepheson--qualified for the National History Day competition after competing at the County and State levels.

·       Held five Parent Education Nights: Sutterville 101--Ins and Outs of Stingray Life (twice); The New Math Curriculum Materials; Talk Often--Discussing Peer Pressure with Children; School Climate and Bullying.

·       Had great attendance at each evening or weekend events for promoting parent participation and community involvement--Fall Festival, Family Science Night, Make-a-Difference Day and Multicultural Family Night.

 

THEODORE JUDAH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·         Won the Title I Academic Achievement Award.

·         Initiated a successful science/garden laboratory program (Science Alive!).

·         Received a $10,000 grant from PG&E to further our work in Greening our Schools.

·         Successful music and art programs.

·         Emerging practice: Pre-Kindergarten (coming in 2010-11!).

·         Successful partnership with Greening our Schools.

 

WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Successful partnerships with Sacramento First Baptist Church and Boys & Girls Club to establish an after-school tutoring program.

·       Partnerships with neighborhood community members and California State University, Sacramento, provides volunteer tutoring during the school day

·       Student art work shared throughout Sacramento through the PTA "Reflections" competition, "Festival del la Familia" at Cal Expo, Sacramento Central Library, and the Superintendent's Office.

·       Selected for “Any Given Child” partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

 

 WILLIAM LAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

·       Two new partnerships were formed:  (1) Asian Community Center that resulted in Adult English as a Second Language classes, ukulele and calligraphy classes for students and our first annual community health fair and (2) The Sacramento Marina that resulted in the development of an after school program for students to be exposed to ecology, science, and fishing.

·       One hundred percent of our teachers provided before or after school tutoring to students.

·       School-wide implementation of The Write Tools.

 

WOODBINE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Fifty percent increase in community attendance at our annual multicultural festival.

Received the CSS Outstanding Achievement Award.

Started the Safe School Ambassadors program which reduced bullying on our campus by nearly 50 percent.

 

K-8 Schools

 

CALEB GREENWOOD K-8 SCHOOL

  • Successful Fall Festival.
  • Delightful Winter Musical Concert
  • Held Second Annual Flapjack 5K and Short Stack Kids Run with proceeds going toward technology.
     
  • Parent Volunteers established a “Green Team.”

JOHN MORSE WALDORF K-8 SCHOOL

·       Vision planning weekend held at McGeorge School of Law outline goals for the next five years.

·       Work party held to sort materials left at Alice Birney School (John Morse is moving to Alice Birney).More than 40 parent and community volunteers showed up to support us.

·       More than 100 parents and community members attend Open House to enjoy face painting, tile painting, coloring and a potluck and to begin working on the projects that need to be completed.

 

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. K-8 SCHOOL

·       Held our first ever “Welcome Back” barbecue the Friday before school started. It was attended by more than 300 families.

·       Successfully launched Stanford University EPGY math tutorial program for 4th – 7th grade students. Students will have access to this program throughout this summer.

·       Started our School Ambassador Program for 3rd – 8th grade students. This program helps develop student leadership and maintain a positive campus climate.

·       Tenth Annual Chili Cook Off/ Pennies for Patients raised $5,000 for  Lymphoma research.

·       Held our First Annual Father/Daughter Sweetheart dance to raise funds for our athletic programs.

·       Girls Soccer team captured the Division 2 Championship at our district tournament.

·       Annual Spring Carnival was biggest ever with more than 300 families coming out to support this event.

 

Middle Schools

 

ALBERT EINSTEIN MIDDLE SCHOOL

·       Significantly increased parent engagement through numerous outreach events and parent education such as the Community BBQ, Spaghetti Dinner, 6th Grade Parent Night, Family University, Essence of Rosemont and the nine-week Parent Institute.

·       Significantly increased support to students in the area of mathematics through the addition of new supplementary curriculum, after-school Math Homework Club, after-school Math Lab (intensive), professional development, and a mid-year master schedule change to add Algebra Essentials and more support classes.

·       Significantly increased support to students in the area of English language arts through the addition of new English learner curriculum, professional development, and after-school support.

 

FERN BACON MIDDLE SCHOOL

·       Began the first career-path academy at the middle school level in the health career fields (Jr. Health Professions Academy), partnering with Health Professions H.S. and UC Davis School of Education.  Twenty-six eighth grade students participated successfully in the first cohort at our site.

·       Fern Bacon takes second place in the boys’ basketball final championship and boys’ soccer final championship against Sutter Middle School.

·       Increased recognition of student achievement, school-wide. Fern Bacon students recognized at local and state levels: Senator Darrell Steinberg, PTA, Voula Steinberg Memorial Scholars.

·       Wonder Girl's Hmong Dance Crew perform and compete around the county, awarded for strong performance,

·       Continued to have a strong partnership with Hiram Johnson West Campus through the Peer Tutoring Program.  Under the supervision of Mark Twain teachers, West Campus students enrolled in a class which enabled them to tutor Mark Twain children throughout the school day.

 

ROSA PARKS MIDDLE SCHOOL

·       CSU Sacramento’s MESA program trained and certified Rosa Parks MYSP (MESA Young Scholars Program) Scholars to provide peer tutoring support in Pre-Algebra and Algebra I twice weekly in a supervised formal academic setting.

·       Held a Career Day. Guest speakers included Matthew Piner, architect; Jameel Pugh, education management; Hong Pham, director of Academic Outreach Programs-U.C. Davis; and Cassandra Jennings from the City Manager’s Office.

·       Muhammad Abdull Tariq represented Rosa Parks in a qualifying round of the National Spelling Bee and ranked 18th of 61 students.

 

 

High Schools

 

ARTHUR BENJAMIN HEALTH PROFESSIONS HIGH SCHOOL

·       Presented at the National Medical School Conference on our Partnership with the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine.  Post presentation score of 98 percent satisfaction on relevance to start similar programs in other cities.

·       Graduates completed over 1000 hours of community service on their senior projects

·       One hundred percent of graduates are enrolled in colleges across the nation.

 

HIRAM JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL

·         Partnered with Sacramento Ballet for free ballet instruction for students.

·         Partnered with Proctor and Gamble for an internship program.

·         Winner Kellogg's beautification of sports facilities.

·         Opened the Hiram Johnson Health Academy on December 9.

·         Four of the 10 district Multiple Pathways programs are located at Hiram Johnson.

 

ROSEMONT HIGH SCHOOL

·       Graduating class includes a Gates Millennium Scholar and a National Merit Scholar.

·       Band performed at Fall Commencement Ceremony, PTSA convention in Sacramento, hosted Youth Symphony.

·       Art students won awards at County Fair.

·       Back-to-Back Metro League Champions in baseball and softball.

·       Metro League Champions in Track.

·       Held a Homecoming Parade.

·       Hosted the Essence of Rosemont Community Open House.

·       Winners of the Got Milk contest.

 

WEST CAMPUS HIGH SCHOOL

·        No. 1-rated high school in the Sacramento Region (as rated by Sacramento Magazine, 2008 API base score: 887)

Dependent Charter Schools

 

BOWLING GREEN CHARTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – McCOY CAMPUS

Formed a partnership with Jamba Juice for Jamba Jump Day, and event to break the Guiness Book of World Records for the most people skipping rope at one time.


Teacher Cindy Day-Galvez received the Dr. Barbara Schmidt Lighthouse for Literacy Award from the Sacramento Area Reading Association for inspiring the love of reading and writing in children. She was the only teacher in SCUSD to receive the award.

 Seven hundred and four students participated in the Governor's Fitness Challenge to receive a $100,000 fitness facility on campus.  

Gained 51 points on our AYP from last year.  Students are anxiously awaiting next year's scores. Students have been working hard to achieve proficiency.

Began a PTA this year to increase parent involvement.

 

BOWLING GREEN CHACON ACADEMY

·       Formed a partnership with CSUS that resulted in 1-1 reading support for our struggling students from teachers acquiring their reading specialist credentials.

·       Sponsored a community health fair where students presented performance-based, health-related projects to the community.  Screening for diabetes and blood pressure was available.  Free Flu and H1N1 vaccines were given.  Approximately 400 people were served at the event.

·       Held a very successful Open House.  Approximately 95 percent of families attended.  Students were expected to provide their parents with a guided tour and present all projects to their parents.

·       Offered Saturday school for 90 students needing additional support in English Language Arts.

·       Offered conversational Spanish to our students.  The parent feedback was very positive.  Many parents expressed their children are now speaking more Spanish than their children taking Spanish in high school.

 

GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER SCHOOL OF ARTS AND SCIENCE

·       Formed a partnership with The City of Rancho Cordova that resulted in student internships throughout the city government.

·       Provided weekly baskets of fresh organic produce grown in our Sam Mazza Garden to the school community.

·       Five students won $500 each at the Youth Energy Summit.

·      Ten students went to Washington DC for a government and US history trip.  They met Doris Matsui who then visited the campus for a tour and student demonstrations.

·       Carver PTO organized the very first spaghetti dinner at Carver which raised $4,000 for classroom supplies.

·       Fifteen students spent 6 hours each week the entire school year mentoring elementary school children at A.M. Winn.

 

Adult Education

CHARLES JONES CAREER AND EDUCATION CENTER

·       Received promising practices recognition from CASAS for our managed enrollment process. Students in medical assisting program participated in all 30 H1N1 flu clinics, serving a total of 500,000 county residents. The medical assisting instructor received an award from Sacramento County for outstanding participation. 

Launched a new and successful Emergency Medical Dispatch program.
